naturführung

The Neusiedler See-Seewinkel National Park, which crosses the border with Hungary, was founded in 1993 and has a total area of approximately 300km², of which around 100 km² are on Austrian territory. The Neusiedler See area is a unique natural space for Austria. Due to its location on the eastern edge of the Alps and the western edge of the "small Hungarian plain", it is a border area from both a historical and biological perspective, where plant and animal species from alpine, Pannonian, Asian, Mediterranean, and Nordic regions can be found. This richness of species would not be possible without a diversity of habitats: large and diverse wetlands, pastures, meadows, dry grasslands, sand steppes, and salt locations lie side by side in a mosaic pattern. National Park CenterThe National Park Center is the central information point for visitors and also serves as a meeting and starting point for many guided tours and routes for self-discovery. The heart of the center is an exhibition that provides initial insights into the unique nature of the cross-border National Park. Admission is free and possible during the opening hours of the National Park Center. BiodiversityThe international significance of this natural area lies both in its extraordinary biodiversity and in its indispensable function for the European-African bird migration. Thousands of migratory birds of more than 370 species rest, feed, or moult here on their way between wintering grounds and breeding sites. The Neusiedler See region is also of great importance as a breeding ground. Species such as great egret, spoonbill, avocet, great bustard, and bee-eater breed here. Visitor Program and Guided ToursThe Neusiedler See-Seewinkel National Park offers guided excursions year-round, where trained excursion leaders provide interesting facts about the habitat and the species found there. In addition, every visitor is free to explore nature in and around the National Park on their own. Brochures, maps, and information about observation opportunities are available at the information center, which is open all year round. Further information and the visitor program can also be found on our homepage! Education CenterWith the education center (eco-pedagogical center) opened in 2010, significantly expanded opportunities are available for school classes, children's and youth groups. The range of offers in the education program extends from half-day to full-day programs to multi-day events or project weeks. Various thematic complexes are available for selection, which can also be combined within the framework of full-day or multi-day events. School GroupsLearning from and with nature, this principle forms the core of our educational programs.
