Lecture by Mag. Elke Ferderbar, Karin Lehner, and Ilse Platzer. Death was already a topic of intense contemplation for people in the Baroque period during their lifetime. The idea of Memento Mori – Remember that you must die – was omnipresent. Lavish funerals became increasingly important. Mourning structures were central to noble burials. The skull of Joseph Haydn, who died in 1809, was only laid to rest with his body in the coffin in 1954. Where had it been until then? Duration: approximately 75 minutes. Participation by registration until 1 week before the event! Price: €12 (free with Museum Card).
