In what style do you want to build?

Friday 7 August · 00:00Kirche RehmenRehmen 33 · vorarlberg

What's it about?

This question was posed in 1828 in a treatise by Heinrich Hübsch to the architects and builders of the time. Hübsch was the teacher of August Moosbrugger, the son of Wendelin Moosbrugger. After Rococo and Classicism, a new style was sought in the 19th century. Buildings of so-called Historicism emerged. Churches were partly designed by supra-regional architects, so much so that one even spoke of a "state style". It is striking that in the 19th century, more than fifty churches in Vorarlberg were rebuilt or newly constructed. In the Bregenzerwald, for example, new churches were built in Hittisau, Egg, Schnepfau, Alberschwende, Schröcken, Müselbach, and finally in Bezau. The lecture will now examine whether a certain building tradition can be found in the Bregenzerwald in this century that has a connection to regional building tradition. What connects these buildings and are there special features, such as the 19th-century stained glass windows? Lecturer: Jörg Paczkowski On the organ: Julia Rüf
