What's it about?

The special exhibition invites visitors to explore this unique habitat from different perspectives. It covers the colorful coexistence of humans, animals, and plants, provides exciting scientific insights into moorlands, glaciers, and climate history, and showcases the impressive biodiversity in and around the lake. Historical photographs, plans, and objects tell of the tourist development since the 19th century, of sports, art, and grand visions — but also of agriculture, mining, fishing, and peat extraction. At the end, the current question of the future of Schwarzsee is addressed: how to balance use and nature conservation? An exhibition about the value and change of an extraordinary natural and cultural landscape and the responsibility humans have for it.
