
A fantastic panoramic hike to what was once Europe's highest mine. Even before the first tourists came to the valley, the discovery of magnesite deposits marked the beginning of the most important era for the economic development of the Tuxertal. Up to 400 people earned their living by mining and smelting the refractory rock. We hike from Vorderlanersbach to the Schrofenalm, visit the Barbara Chapel with the fresco by the Tyrolean painter Max Weiler. Here we learn more about the former factory settlement, which, in addition to residential buildings, was also equipped with a primary school, canteen, department store, cinema, swimming pool, and ski lift.
