What's it about?

Reith im Alpbachtal/St. Gertraudi – The "Gairer Faschingsgilde Dachtei" introduced a new tradition on November 11th at 11:11 am, where a symbolic "Dachtei" (jackdaw) was caught. This ceremony was accompanied by a festive procession and marked an innovative turn in the regional carnival culture. Traditions usually develop over centuries – but deliberately creating a new tradition is rare. This is the goal of the smallest carnival guild in Tyrol, based in St. Gertraudi in the Unterinntal. The village, also known as "Gai," is the home of the "Gairer Faschingsgilde Dachtei – Dachtei." On November 11th at exactly 11:11 am, there was no traditional carnival opening through excavations, but a premiere: the first catching of a "Dachtei." This action directly references the regional carnival call "Dachtei – Dachtei." "Dachtei" stands for the jackdaws, those black birds that have been part of the local carnival folklore for many years.
