A court d’Airs! - The Kapsber’girls

Friday 20 November · 19:30Innsbruck Canisianum · tirol

What's it about?

In their seventh program, the French female ensemble Les Kapsber’girls dedicate themselves to a symbolic part of French music that caused a sensation at the end of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th centuries: the Air de cour. A purely secular music repertoire based on texts of refined poetry or, on the contrary, depictions of everyday scenes that are treated humorously and satirically; a music whose expressive power and rhetorical qualities are perfectly suited to the human voice; a genre that could not be a better fit for the cheerful quartet! The four musicians' fondness for folk-inspired music is well known, as their last concert triptych was entirely devoted to this theme: from French Brunettes to Italian Villanelle to Iberian Tono Humanos. It is no coincidence that the Kapsber’girls have decided to explore this pre-Baroque repertoire, which originates from touching folk songs. Originally accompanied by the lute, which flourished at the courts of France at the time, and later complemented by the Viola da gamba, whose sound qualities match the human voice, the court melodies offer the quartet a new field of activity, where it — true to its artistic line — revives enchanting works that have fallen into oblivion to this day, and at the same time, with its own energy, interprets some essential core pieces and key works of this in many ways extraordinary repertoire in a completely new way.
