Kunstpavillon

The Kunstpavillon in the "Kleiner Hofgarten" was built in 1842 as the summer house of the provincial governor and converted into a skylight gallery in 1951 by the architect Hans Fritz. Since then, it has been the seat of the Tiroler Künstler*schaft association, founded in 1946, and houses the association office and association archive in addition to the exhibition space. The Tiroler Künstler*schaft association is a forum for art in Tyrol. It forms a non-profit, politically independent association of visual artists based in Innsbruck. The association currently has approx. 336 members (as of: autumn 2018). The purpose of the association is to represent and promote the cultural, economic, and social interests of visual artists. The association operates the following facilities: Kunstpavillon, Neue Galerie, and Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen. In the Kunstpavillon and the Neue Galerie, the Tiroler Künstler*schaft focuses on developing exhibitions by international artists in close cooperation with regionally based artists, who place local positions in the context of related working methods and ways of thinking. Admission is free.
