We start our adventure by taking the Hohe Mut Bahn up to the Hohe Mut Sattel and hiking into the wild Gaisbergtal. Together we find the best way through the moonscape that has emerged since the end of the Little Ice Age and the glacier retreat. Once we reach the glacier tongue, we put on our crampons, rope up, and follow the ice stream of the Gaisbergferner, an alpine valley glacier, upwards. Your mountain guide will introduce you to the techniques of moving on eternal ice, and if you wish, you can even explore the inside of the glacier by abseiling into a crevasse. Glacier ice is alive. It is not a dead mass; it moves, makes sounds, and has character. A glacier is not just grey and white - but it's best to see for yourself!
