
Castle tour...... walk through 600 years of eventful history. Even today, one can feel the atmosphere of long-past days when entering the ancient Kaprun Castle; it is as if one travels back in time. Surrounded by centuries-old walls, one gets an impression of how counts or castle governors spent their daily lives back then. What is a real attraction for visitors today was for many noble families over centuries a proud possession and refuge. The castle is first mentioned in a document at the end of the 13th century. Historians assume that the construction of the castle dates back even further. Kaprun Castle was built by the Upper Bavarian noble family of the Falkensteiners in the 12th century. Until 1975, the castle went through exciting times before it increasingly fell victim to the natural process of decay. Finally, the Burgverein Kaprun ensured that piles of rubble, overgrown vegetation, and weathering effects were remedied. Since then, it shines again...
