Matinee documentary, Germany 2026, 1 hour 30 minutes, directed by Nepomuk Pfaff, rated 0. A forest may seem static, but beneath our feet lies a class of animals that is much larger than any other. Our biosphere is a puzzle made up of many parts, with a key player: insects. For millions of years, they have shaped one of the most effective co-evolutions in Earth's history. In partnership with plants, they have formed the diversity of our landscapes by contributing to the development of flowers. Insects were the first to conquer the sky, and they created nutrient cycles and food chains that form the basis of our existence. They have survived the dinosaurs – but can they survive us? The cinematic journey begins around 480 million years ago and follows the complex interconnections within ecosystems. Through impressive imagery and complemented by a sensitive narration – spoken by Katharina Thalbach – a window opens into the microcosm of insects and their often overlooked importance. This reveals the role these creatures play in maintaining the balance of our planet. © Camino Film & CZAR Film
