What's it about?

"I don't wear make-up, it makes me look old." Dirty Old Women is an autobiographical chamber play with elements of cabaret and sitcom. Two women in their early seventies decide to try their luck on a sex-positive dating site. Their goal is not to find life partners, but to enjoy some entertainment with perhaps a touch of eroticism in their "golden years." Communication trainer Jenny Simanowitz ("Who's Afraid of the Jewish Mother?", "Wild Granny Jenny") and Irish-Austrian actress Kathy Tanner (English Lovers) are friends and accomplices. The play emerged from their real experiences. "When you're old, you have nothing left to lose," says Jenny. Kathy agrees. The openness with which they approach their encounters leads to stories that are funny, crazy, and sometimes deeply moving. "The only thing that connects them to the common image of a grandmother is jam. Not making jam, however, but the well-known song that Darbo long used for its jam advertising: Coin-Operated Boy by The Dresden Dolls... a mixture of sharp-tongued cabaret and sitcom, is autobiographical and breaks with the socially prevalent image of older women, which suggests a boundary to lust and eroticism" (Der Standard)
