In the folk play "Das Frankenburger Würfelspiel," the events of May 1625 are brought to the stage. At that time, a Catholic priest was to be installed in Frankenburg and other counties. However, he was driven out by the Protestant population, and the Frankenburg bailiff was besieged. This armed uprising was to be ended by the Bavarian governor Adam Count of Herberstorff, who called all male residents to gather at Haushamerfeld, about 5 kilometers from the open-air stage. He promised clemency to everyone, but it was bloodier than expected. However, these unrests did not end with this act — "Das Frankenburger Würfelspiel" was the trigger of the Upper Austrian Peasants' Wars. The play is performed on Europe's largest natural stage. Please bring warm clothing or blankets. Weather-related cancellations will be announced on our homepage and the service phone (from 5:00 PM on performance days). In case of a weather-related cancellation, you will receive tickets for another performance or a refund upon providing your ticket number.
