What's it about?

With BOCCACCIO, Franz von Suppè created one of the best operettas in history. This piece excels in all its components. An endless wealth of musical highlights, sophistication, and exuberance is joined by the witty and humorous libretto by Friedrich Zell and Richard Genée. Medieval Florence is in an uproar, and the notorious poet Boccaccio is to blame. With his novellas about the liberal love lives of Florentine ladies, he drives the venerable gentlemen of the city to the barricades, while the women are only too happy to succumb to the poet's charm. Soon, however, the daring titular hero finds himself in an amorous adventure that promises more than just material for the next novella. While the angry crowd publicly burns his works, Boccaccio has lost his heart to the most beautiful of all Florentine women. This operetta is a "triumphant piece" that leaves nothing to be desired.
