What's it about?

Invitation to a reading on November 7, 2026, at 7:30 PM in the Cultural Hall of the Furthmühle in Pram. Organizer: Pram/Wendling Library. Roland Schwarz, an author who already delighted his audience in Pram two years ago during the 25th anniversary of the library with a reading, will read from his new book "An Afternoon in the Southern Blooming Land." The author lived for three months in an artist residency in Shanghai to gather stories from China, which are incorporated into his narratives. Maxim from Kyiv stages a Bertolt Brecht play while his city is being bombed, to offer his fellow citizens at least a little distraction for one evening. Ada from Shanghai translates a collection of short stories by George Saunders during the Covid lockdown to keep her mind from losing itself. Bettina from Berchtesgaden discovers her love for writing through the novels of Rosamunde Pilcher, and is now a bestselling author herself. In these and other true stories collected by Roland Schwarz in different countries, a particular book inspires people to extraordinary deeds. They prove that books can provide comfort, clarity, or even give life a new direction. "These are touching stories compiled by author Roland Schwarz in this book about books... His optimistic attitude makes this book worth reading, indeed lovable." (Peter Simon Altmann) Brief biography: Roland Schwarz was born and raised in St. Marienkirchen/Polsenz, Upper Austria; he is a teacher of English, Geography, and German as a foreign language; studied in Graz, Oxford, and Ljubljana. His wanderlust remained after his studies. He taught in the USA, spent extended periods in Ried im Innkreis (Upper Austria), and most recently at the Austrian school in Prague. There he discovered his passion for writing. His great passion is books, and he is committed to sharing them with as many people as possible.
