(Thomas Bernhard) A fictional place in Upper Austria, the enchanted-cursed Hochgobernitz Castle, is the setting for the second part of the novel "Verstörung" (Disruption), the manic monologue of the lord of the castle, Prince Saurau. The novel, published in 1967, was originally intended to be called "Das Hirn" (The Brain). The core, the Prince's monologue, would have justified this title. In his castle, where he radically distances himself from the surrounding political and spiritual decay, he reflects on his existence. Martin Schwab, known for many years as a congenial Bernhard interpreter on the stage of the Vienna Burgtheater and at the Salzkammergut Festwochen Gmunden, takes on this sprawling, truly disturbing text, monologizing, reciting, reading.
