29TH GUINNESS IRISH CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL

What's it about?

With a very diverse program titled "Diaspora" and dominated by women power, the 29th edition of the successful Guinness Irish Christmas Festival excites audiences. The diaspora involved includes both the McGoldricks, whose parents had to leave Ireland and who grew up in the Irish community of Manchester, as well as Cassie & Maggie MacDonald, whose ancestors were deported from the Scottish Highlands to Canada along with tens of thousands of other Scots during the "Highland Clearances" in the late 18th century. The evening is opened by harp virtuoso Laoise Kelly. She hails from Westport, County Mayo, lives on Achill Island, and is considered one of Ireland's most important harpists. With her distinctive style, she combines traditional melodies with modern influences and has significantly contributed to bringing the Irish harp back into the center of traditional music.
