Hand PapermakingEmbark on a journey through the "Old Factory" and experience paper production firsthand, from its very beginnings to the present day. In the historic factory halls, the art of hand papermaking is still practiced today. Visitors have the opportunity to try hand papermaking themselves. Hand-made laid paper with interesting watermarks can also be purchased in the Museum Shop – or even ordered with your initials! Papermaker's MuseumIn the unique ambiance of the former Steyrermühl paper mill, historical and contemporary topics related to paper production are presented in a clear and easily understandable way through modern museum design. Social aspects of industrial history, environmental protection, and the significance of the Traun are also depicted in separate sections. In the new theme area "modern paper," visitors are introduced to paper as a high-tech product with the help of the latest multimedia techniques. Printing MuseumThe art of printing is also called "the black art." Here you can get a historical overview of the history of printing. Starting with the development of Latin script and Gutenberg's revolutionary invention, all printing techniques are presented. TRY IT YOURSELF! In the Printing Museum, visitors can print a sheet of paper on a 1878 platen press. We are happy to cast a letter of your choice for you – just like in Gutenberg's time. Workshops for children and adults are offered in our lithography workshop. With prior registration, we offer guided tours through the museum; those who wish can also make paper themselves.
