What's it about?

The days are getting shorter, the evenings longer – and exactly then, an old Upper Austrian tradition comes back to life: Liachtbratlmontag (Liachtbratl Monday). In the past, Liachtbratlmontag was the day when craftsmen, after the long summer months, first needed artificial light in their workshops again. During the summer months, work was done in daylight to save on lighting costs. The saved money was used by the master to treat his employees to a "Bratl" (roast), and thus the name Liachtbratlmontag was born. It is traditionally celebrated on the Monday after Michaeli, September 29. And because we at Hofwirt love traditions, we bring this beautiful custom to our plates.
