What's it about?

Program Arcangelo Corelli (1653–1713): Concerto grosso in G minor, Op. 6 No. 8 ('Fatto per la notte di Natale') Franz Schubert (1797–1828): Rondo for Violin and Orchestra in A major, D 438 Johannes Brahms (1833–1897): Quintet in G major, Op. 111. "With this letter, you can say farewell to my music," Johannes Brahms wrote to his publisher when he sent the Quintet in G major, Op. 111. For a long time, the work was considered his musical farewell — a musical summary full of references to Wagner, Strauss, Beethoven, and Mendelssohn. Franz Schubert echoes the idea of an afterglow with his Rondo for Violin and String Orchestra in A major, D 438: The recurring main melody remains memorable, reinforced by an impressive slow introduction.
