Program: Gabriel Fauré (1845–1924): Suite from the incidental music 'Pelléas et Mélisande' op. 80 Henri Dutilleux (1916–2013): 'Tout un monde lointain …' for cello and orchestra Helmut Schmidinger (*1969): '22 Kreuzer für haidn und mich chokolade' (2026) – Austrian premiere Ludwig van Beethoven (1770–1827): Symphony No. 1 in C major, op. 21 An evening full of echoes: Henri Dutilleux’s cello concerto 'Tout un monde lointain …' is inspired by Charles Baudelaire’s 'Les Fleurs du Mal'. The music captures the atmosphere and sound of the poems without illustrating them. Gabriel Fauré’s orchestral suite 'Pelléas et Mélisande' is based on Maurice Maeterlinck’s play. Helmut Schmidinger’s new orchestral piece, which will be performed in its Austrian premiere, refers to Ludwig van Beethoven’s youth diary – the title quotes an entry about a chocolate for Joseph Haydn.
