Weihnachtsoratorium (Camille Saint-Saëns)

What's it about?

The work was first performed in Paris in 1869. The instrumentation is chamber music style. Five soloists and a four-part choir are accompanied by strings, harp, and organ. The lyrical contemplation of the Christmas event surrounding the birth of Jesus Christ is carried by a clear, elegant melody and charming harmonies characteristic of French Romantic music. This work will be performed by the Spitaler choir and orchestra community on Sunday, December 20, 2026, at 4:00 PM in the Stiftskirche of Spital am Pyhrn. Admission: advance tickets €18 (parish office, Café-Konditorei Kemetmüller, Dorfladen Spital, and from choir members); at the door €20. Children free.
