What's it about?

Domenico Antonio Carlone decorated the interior of the church with his calm color scheme and magnificent stucco pilasters. A highlight of Baroque church painting in Upper Austria are the frescoes by Bartolomeo Altomonte in the presbytery. The wrought iron grille created by Andreas Ferdinand Lindemayr is considered one of the most beautiful ironworks in Austria. Artistic sensibility and piety have allowed this place of worship to be so splendidly established. North of the church, in the so-called "Dechantstöckel," is the treasury of the former Spital Abbey. It was used to store documents, vestments, and liturgical vessels. Today, the treasury displays especially valuable sculptures, liturgical garments, and also historically significant documents concerning the abbey and the two churches. The crypt beneath the presbytery of the abbey church was the burial site of the canons of Spital am Pyhrn. From January 25 to May 15, 1945, the entire Hungarian treasure was kept here.
