Climate Research in the National Park

What's it about?

The 'Zöbelboden' in the Reichraminger Hintergebirge is a centerpiece of ecological long-term research in Europe. The mountain forest habitat on carbonate rock reacts particularly sensitively to climate changes and air pollution. Many pollutants are transported over large distances, but some of the burdens are also 'home-made'. Since 1992, the Federal Environment Agency has been investigating the impact of pollutant deposits in forests at Zöbelboden. The results from the measurements show the air quality in the Kalkalpen National Park, the effectiveness of international air pollution control agreements, and the effects of climate change on mountain forests.
