What's it about?

The Foreign Legionnaire Octavio is waiting in a Spanish port city for his embarkation to North Africa. There he meets the life-hungry, married Giuditta. The two fall in love, and Giuditta follows Octavio to Africa. After weeks of a dream of love, Octavio is called up. Giuditta is left behind, disappointed. When Octavio leaves the military out of longing for Giuditta to get her, her life has already taken a different turn... With his last operetta, Franz Lehár's dream of having a premiere at the Vienna State Opera came true: Jarmila Novotná and tenor superstar Richard Tauber premiered the work there in 1934.
