A political-historical lecture by Ernst Aigner Even a cabaret artist is allowed to give a serious lecture – especially if his name is Ernst Aigner and he has taught history at a Gymnasium for 40 years. As a member of the "Platform for Culture and Humanity", he has been advocating for democracy and human rights for years. After lectures and speeches in Linz, he is now speaking for the first time in his hometown. His message: In a democracy, people do not rule over people. Everyone is bound by laws that are jointly shaped on the basis of equality before the law. Democracy is endangered when people believe they are allowed to dominate others – because they consider themselves stronger, better, or belonging to a superior nation, religion, or culture. A male image that glorifies domination and violence and devalues women still shapes our world. It contributes to the success of right-wing and fascist movements. But this way of thinking is not natural. It has arisen historically and can be changed. A democratic future needs empathy, cooperation, and care. Women and men benefit equally from this.
