CYCLING CITIES - A Journey to Europe's Most Beautiful Cycling Cities
What's it about?
The journalist and filmmaker Ingwar Perowanowitsch traveled across Europe by bike for two months. He started in Freiburg and, with his camera in tow, visited cities such as Paris, Ghent, Amsterdam, Utrecht, Groningen, Hamburg, and Copenhagen. Perowanowitsch wanted to find out why they are considered particularly livable, what they do to achieve this, and what German municipalities can learn from them. His film "Cycling Cities" documents the search for good solutions for urban traffic. For this, he speaks on site with planners, political decision-makers, and committed individuals. Perowanowitsch shows how decisive action can redistribute public space and increase the quality of life. Paris, for example, proves how quickly a metropolis can convert streets for cycling. In Utrecht, people cross the Dafne Schippers Bridge, which directly connects residential areas with the city center. Perowanowitsch clarifies that a lack of space is not the issue for better cycling infrastructure, but often a lack of political will.
