We will show you how not to embarrass yourself when making inquiries and why such a court procedure is not so bad after all. Two years ago, a new fundamental right was established with the Freedom of Information Act. The promise was that the state would become more transparent and citizens could now view government documents on all topics. But reality is more complicated; inquiries still often fail. In the actually "informal" procedure, there are quite a few things to consider, and some authorities and state enterprises still try to withhold as much information as possible. For years, we at the Forum for Freedom of Information have been trying to expand access to government information. We operate platforms such as FragDenStaat.at and offenevergaben.at. In this workshop, you will get inspiration for inquiry ideas. You will learn how to formulate inquiries whose answers will also be helpful to you. And if the authority refuses to answer, this workshop provides important tips on how to still obtain the information through legal action. Because not only code should be open-source, but also administration.
