Johannes Enders Trio plays "Pharoah Sanders"
What's it about?
The terms Spiritual Jazz and Ethno Jazz go back to musicians like Pharaoh Sanders, because when the tenor saxophonist played, it was always as if he was establishing direct contact with the creator. Weilheim saxophonist Johannes Enders now bows to this giant, who passed away in 2022, and the last living link to John Coltrane. He calls his program with bassist Joris Teepe and drummer Gerne Calderazzo B, in reference to a famous Sanders title, The Creator Has a Masterplan. Enders is never tempted to try to recreate the unique sound of his role model. While there are echoes in his tribute, he otherwise remains true to himself.
