The Collection

What's it about?

The collection is the heart and soul of our museum. The basic idea of the presentation is a chronological sequence that makes it possible to get to know the most important movements and styles of art history from the 19th century to the present in their original form. In addition, we focus on artists who have a special relationship with Linz and Lentos, such as VALIE EXPORT and Herbert Bayer. Art history is not static; on the contrary, the canon is constantly being rewritten, leading to ongoing re-evaluations and rediscoveries. Thus, the museum becomes an instrument for experiencing and understanding art history and leads to the temporary exhibitions, which are primarily dedicated to current art. The reinstallation of the collection was gradually carried out in 2018 by museum director Hemma Schmutz together with her team. In August, families can visit Lentos with free admission.
