Dry Stone Wall Course

Saturday 19 SeptemberAussichtswarte Priel var lbsettings = {"txtImage":"Bild" · niederoesterreich

What's it about?

Invitation to participate in the dry stone wall course from September 18 to 19, 2026 with Helmut Schieder, Langenlois Horticultural School. During the course, a dry stone wall will be built together at the Priel observation tower. Traditional techniques according to modern standards will be taught – including stone sorting, use of tools, and efficient working – step by step from the foundation to the top of the wall. Cost contribution: EUR 150.00 including hand-out, drinks, and lunch. Registration at gemeindeamt@senftenberg.at or T: 02719/2319. Dry stone walls are walls built without binders, solely by skillfully laying and wedging stones. They were often used in the past for terracing slopes and, due to their high stability, are often several hundred years old today. With their crevices, cavities, and sunny and shady spots, dry stone walls offer valuable habitats and retreats for many animal and plant species, thus making a valuable contribution to promoting biodiversity in the region. Dry stone walling has been considered an intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO in Austria since 2021. (min. 8 people, max. 15 people, registration deadline August 15, 2026). The municipality of Senftenberg supports the project. The Priel Village Renewal is looking forward to numerous registrations!
