What's it about?
On February 19, 2027, Falco would have turned 70 years old – a reason to celebrate one of Austria's greatest artists with "Happy Birthday Falco – his Original Band & Guests for the 70th." Under the musical direction of Thomas Rabitsch, the musicians who brought Falco's unmistakable sound to the stage live for years and know it like no other ensemble are performing. Since Falco's 50th birthday in 2007, the formation has maintained the tradition of paying musical tribute to him around his birthday. What started in the Vienna cult club U4 has long developed into Austria's most famous all-star tribute production and has already performed on major stages across the country, from open-air festivals to the New Year's Eve show at Vienna's Rathausplatz. For Falco's 60th birthday, Thomas Rabitsch elevated the tribute format from the intimate setting of U4 to a much larger stage. At that time, Falco's original band, together with national and international guests, played on the main stage of the Vienna Danube Island Festival – in front of over 140,000 people and at the very place where Falco had given his legendary concert in 1993, which was prematurely ended by a lightning strike. In 2017, this historic performance was finally played out, including those songs that could not be performed in 1993. For the 70th, this tradition is now brought to the Danube stage in Tulln: together with prominent guests from the Austrian music scene, the original band revives the greatest hits of an extraordinary career – from "Der Kommissar" to "Ganz Wien," "Jeanny," and "Vienna Calling," up to the worldwide hit "Rock Me Amadeus," which remains the only German-language number-one hit on the US charts. This is made possible through an elaborate technical concept: the original band played all pieces in the original arrangement synchronized with video recordings of the 1993 concert, so that virtual duets of the live guests with Falco himself are created at the end – accompanied by his introductions from that night. Confirmed special guests for the evening include: Roman Gregory, Georgij Makazaria, Edita Malovčić, Ana Milva Gomes, Drew Sarich, Skero, and Tini Kainrath. With "Happy Birthday Falco – his Original Band & Guests for the 70th," the tradition continues on the Danube riverbank in Tulln – again with the original band, again with prominent guests, and again with Falco himself, who appears on stage via video screen.
