Daoirí Farrell - guest Waltzing - Tonkünstler Orchestra When Irish folk meets symphonic sound, a wide space opens between tradition and the present. With Daoirí Farrell and Mark Redmond, two exceptional Irish artists perform on stage with the Tonkünstler Orchestra for the first time. Irish music thrives on its mixture of melancholy and clarity. What is today celebrated worldwide as Irish Folk has deep roots in the Celtic history of the island and still sounds remarkably contemporary. Daoirí Farrell, one of the most distinctive voices of modern Irish folk music, captures the unmistakable tone between intimacy and storytelling with his singing and bouzouki. Mark Redmond complements him with the soft breathing Uilleann Pipes, whose sound is less cutting than embracing. Together with the Tonkünstler Orchestra, intimate song forms are combined with grand orchestral breadth. Under the direction of guest conductor Waltzing, this creates an evening that does not exclude tradition but makes it alive.
