Schmusechor
What's it about?
The music hits directly in the heart, but the message behind it is more than just cuddly: With his SCHMUSE*PASSION, the Schmusechor (Cuddle Choir) revives an old tradition during Passiontide, celebrates community, and playfully targets stereotypical gender roles and clichés. Fresh choral arrangements of old and new pop hits from Radiohead to Billie Eilish, and as their latest project, their SCHMUSE*PASSION, which features works by women and queer artists: all of this is brought to the stage with verve by the Schmusechor, effortlessly balancing excellent musical performance, theater, and dance – accompanied by the innovative ensemble inn.wien. With extravagant outfits, elaborate makeup, and passionate performance, they add an extravagant touch to the enjoyment of music. The result is a shimmering Gesamtkunstwerk (total work of art) for all the senses, which also makes a strong statement for greater diversity. Founded by its charismatic leader Verena Giesinger in a Vienna shared apartment bedroom, the Schmusechor has long since conquered the Austrian choral scene. Its success is reflected not only in numerous projects and collaborations, such as with the Vienna Volkstheater, but also in the release of the album Schmusechor Live in 2024.
