Oscar Wilde's comedy classic "Bunbury" delighted at the Summer Theater. The Mödling Summer Theater, under the artistic direction of Andreas Berger, celebrated its much-applauded premiere on July 4th in the romantic church square in front of St. Othmar. Oscar Wilde's most successful comedy "Bunbury" caused confusion, entanglement, many laughs, and an enthusiastic premiere audience. Despite "comedy anticipation," City Councilor for Culture Stephan Schimanowa recalled in his speech the tragic fate of the author, who was persecuted in Victorian England because of his homosexuality and eventually died impoverished at only 46 years old. Mayor Silvia Drechsler then officially opened the event and thanked the team around Andreas and Gabi Berger for many years of quality theater productions in Mödling's church square.Much applause for a successful premiere! The enthusiastic ensemble is complemented by the dog of actress Nici Neiss, who provides many extra laughs. It is simply not appropriate to highlight individual performers; all contribute their good part to bringing the almost 90-minute production to the stage in front of St. Othmar in a lively and humorous way. Chapeau, this is how summer theater should be!In the play, the two dandies Algernon and Jack lead a double life. Algernon invents a sickly friend named Bunbury, who must be visited regularly in the countryside, while Jack pretends to care for his frivolous brother Ernst in order to travel to the city as often as possible. There, as the very same Ernst, he leads an extravagant life, while on his country estate he acts as a moral role model for his ward Cecily. She, in turn – like Algernon's cousin Gwendolin, whom Jack courts during his visits to the city – has set her mind on marrying only a man named Ernst.
