What's it about?
Four women – four cellos, a highly explosive musical cocktail! Classical, neutral-toned, kitsch, quirky, demanding, and entertaining – with its unusual and extravagant program, eXtracello weighs and rocks through music history. Enthusiastic about the orchestral sound of the ensemble and the diverse possibilities of the instrument, the four musicians decided in 2007 to intensify their occasional collaboration and founded eXtracello. The wide stylistic variety of the programs developed from the different musical focuses of the four musicians, each bringing their own influences into the ensemble. Original compositions, arrangements, and improvisations make up the distinctive style of the ensemble, whether Renaissance, classical, jazz, pop, or rock. The four cellists are adventurous in exploring the limits of their instrument, from delicate cantilenas to noises of all kinds to groovy rock bass. Extra: Gudula Urban's wonderful voice, with original songs or arrangements of well-known jazz and pop standards.
