What's it about?

Prinz Pi is going on tour with his new album West Berlin: a completely new live show and stage await his loyal audience, who have been supporting him for a long time. Of course, he also has a number of old hits in his luggage, creating the typical sense of togetherness he is known and appreciated for. When it comes to German rap, the name Prinz Pi cannot be left out. The Berlin-based artist is rightly regarded by his fans on the same level as rap stars like Sido, Eko Fresh, and others. Especially his controversial and socially critical songs are the reason why Prinz Pi's shows are regularly among the absolute highlights at relevant festivals. Born in 1979 in the Charlottenburg district of Berlin, Friedrich Kauz initially made a name for himself under the pseudonym Prinz Porno in the German hip-hop scene. His artistic talent was first expressed as a talented graffiti artist, as he comes from a Czech refugee family. However, his breakthrough came with his passion for music. Instead of pursuing a risky career in the music business, Prinz Pi, aka Friedrich Kauz, initially chose a stable education. He attended a humanistic high school in Berlin-Steglitz and began studying communication design at the Berlin-Weißensee University of Art in 2002. However, his passion for rapping eventually led him in a different direction. In 1998, the Berlin native gained attention with a song on the hip-hop compilation 'Berlin Nr. 1 Vol. 1', which also featured Kool Savas. With his own sampler 'Porno Privat' and the track 'Keine Liebe', Prinz Pi then achieved a breakthrough on the internet — even though the album was not intended for the public and was circulated through friends and acquaintances. Prinz Pi can rightfully be called a workaholic, as he writes and produces constantly. From the beginning, his works have been characterized by socially critical themes: the rapper addresses global injustices critically and sometimes provocatively. His tours take him through countless concert halls, and he collaborates with many other artists. Tickets for Prinz Pi are also highly sought after at festivals. In 2004, Friedrich Kauz temporarily left the music scene, only to reappear a year later under the new artist name Prinz Pi. His solo sampler 'Teenage Mutant Horror Show' even reached the Top 50 of the German album charts for two weeks in its second version. Many tracks, albums, and collaborations follow, including with Casper and RAF Camora. Prinz Pi's tireless work ethic is rewarded with sold-out concert halls and numerous chart placements. His private life is also going well, as he is a father of three. A special highlight in his career was his trip to Tanzania in Africa in 2008. Together with local youth, he recorded several songs as part of the 'Virus Free Generation Hip-Hop' tour, addressing the worldwide, but especially in Africa still widespread disease AIDS. Prinz Pi can undoubtedly be counted among the most successful German rap artists. This is evidenced not only by his large fan base but also by his regular appearances in the German charts, including albums like 'Kompass ohne Norden' (2013), 'pp=mc²' (2015), and 'Im Westen nix Neues' (2016), all of which reached number 1. Awards such as the German Music Authors' Prize also show that Prinz Pi is well received outside his usual audience.
