The Vienna Pop Culture Tour through the Inner City traces the history of 'Austropop' and takes you to legendary locations that were important for the development of a local pop music scene. The walking tour spans a wide range from jazz during World War II and the occupation period, through dialect literature, to the Beat & Rock 'n' Roll wave from England and the USA. It shows how the fusion of these influences in the early 1970s led to the emergence of Austropop and the dialect wave, and how the first wave spilled over into the coming decades. Alongside interesting facts about these places, you will also be provided with plenty of insider stories, funny anecdotes, song samples, photos, and records during the walk. The tour starts in front of St. Stephen's Cathedral and ends at Cafe Hawelka.
