Hacke has written several thousand columns over many decades, mainly in the Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin, and has published more than thirty books. And what is he doing now? He tells us how he did it. He also reads to us. But since he cannot read everything (at least not in one evening), he only reads the best, yes, precisely, the very best, the most amusing, the most thought-provoking, the cleverest, the most cheerful, so that one can say: He has prepared his entire life as an author just for this evening, yes, exactly: for the best evening, no, the very best. Axel Hacke lives as a writer in Munich. He is famous for his column "Das Beste aus aller Welt" (The Best from Around the World), which he has been publishing every Friday in the magazine of the Süddeutsche Zeitung for decades. His books are bestsellers. His work has been awarded, among others, the Joseph-Roth-Preis, two Egon-Erwin-Kisch-Preisen, the Theodor-Wolff-Preis, and most recently the Ben Witter-Preis in 2019.
