What's it about?

By Ewald Palmetshofer Duration: 2 hours 45 minutes - 1 intermission In a surveillance state shaken by demonstrations, Heinrich "Heinz" Bolingbroke rules as an authoritarian quasi-king and, after a concerning medical diagnosis, considers his succession. The top candidate is "Hothead" Henry Percy—put forward by his father, Heinrich's chairmanship, and other state organs, Brain and Mouth. Meanwhile, at the lower end of society, in Frau Flott's club, the constant guest John Falstaff is enjoying life. There he meets Harri, the fallen son of quasi-king Heinrich, and takes him under his wing. Falstaff believes he has found a rare, unspoiled person in Harri but is betrayed and disappointed by him. Then the state apparatus encourages Harri to compete with Hothead for political power. As Harri tastes the nectar of power, the poison of tyranny does its destructive work. Austrian author Ewald Palmetshofer leads Falstaff, the beloved outsider among Shakespeare's characters, into the depths of a dystopian world. After HAMLET, Karin Henkel directs this intoxicating, humorous adaptation of HEINRICH IV. and questions together with the author why times are not getting better. Director: Karin Henkel Set design: Thilo Reuther Costumes: Teresa Vergho Music: Matthias Grübel Video: Andrea Gabriel Choreography and body language: Sabine Molenaar Lighting: Michael Hofer Dramaturgy: Rita Thiele, Jeroen Versteele
