The hands are turning backwards, the balloon is ready for take-off: Bernhard Paul's Circus-Theater Roncalli is ready for the grand anniversary tour celebrating the 50th birthday of "Europe's most admired circus" (Herald Tribune Washington). Opening the door to the future For the 50th anniversary, Bernhard Paul's team has prepared a true fireworks display of ideas. "The program should not be a best-of or a poetically dreamy retrospective, but rather open a door to the future!" says the Roncalli founder and circus director. The beloved Roncalli flair and the courage for innovation will remain: "Strengthened by the experiences of 50 years of the Roncalli idea, we embark on the anniversary tour with verve and passion. - Let yourselves be surprised!" The Journey to the Rainbow On May 18, 1976, Roncalli celebrated its world premiere with "The Greatest Poetry of the Universe" and toured Austria with it. It performed in Vienna, Graz, and Salzburg, among other places, where the audience could experience the unique blend of theater, clowning, and dream world for the first time. But it was the premiere of "The Journey to the Rainbow" on June 4, 1980, in Cologne that established its legendary success. Roncalli is a poetic counter-design to the circuses of that time. Bernhard Paul, born in Lower Austria, is celebrated as a renewer of circus art. He focuses on the overall staging. In the following years, the circus expanded, was overwhelmed with visitors, performed at the invitation of cultural offices and theater festivals, and traveled as a cultural ambassador of the state of NRW to Moscow, Seville, Copenhagen, and New York. Today, Roncalli stands for much more than just circus. The live entertainment company is admired and awarded worldwide for its extraordinary show concepts and experience worlds. Roncalli's next generation With its anniversary in 2026, Roncalli not only celebrates the life's work of its founder Bernhard Paul. The next generation, Vivian, Adrian, and Lili Paul-Roncalli, has long been in the starting blocks. The anniversary year will also be an opportunity for them to present their vision for the dream factory to the world.
