What's it about?

Sigur Rós' "Ágætis Byrjun"? Of Monsters And Men's "My Head Is An Animal"? Björk's "Debut"? No. The one record that more than one in ten Icelanders now have on their shelf is called "Dýrð í dauðaþögn". Recorded at the age of just twenty, the album brought Ásgeir Trausti Einarsson national fame in 2012. However, the Icelandic heartthrob, who grew up in the 57-soul village of Laugarbakki, originally had completely different plans. But his aspiring sports career quickly came to an end - at the latest when Ásgeir's debut album climbed to the top of the domestic charts. A year later, he translated his father's Icelandic poems into English with the help of his US colleague John Grant. Under the title "In The Silence", the 21-year-old re-released his acclaimed success in 2013: linguistically prepared for the international market. The electronically tinged indie-folk, complete with Bon Iver-esque falsetto, hit the pulse of the times; the British Guardian quickly called him a "less esoteric Antony Hegarty or Jeff Buckley". After Ásgeir landed an unconventional Christmas hit in his homeland with rapper BlazRoca in 2013, the multi-instrumentalist dedicated himself intensively to touring in the following years. In addition to mainland Europe, where the debut had cracked the Top 50 in many places, the United States was also on the agenda for the first time in 2014. In Germany, Trausti also made a name for himself with a Nordic-introverted cover version of Milky Chance's "Stolen Dance". And fragile self-interpretations of Nirvana and the Pixies have also spread into his live set. In 2017, Ásgeir's second studio album, "Afterglow", was released, which probably represents the definitive departure from the Icelandic language. For the first time, it was: English Version only. In the following years, further albums were released, including "Bury The Moon" (2020), "Time On My Hands" (2022) and "Julia" (2026).
