Filialkirche Johannes d. Täufer- Kleinsöll

The subsidiary church of St. John the Baptist in Kleinsöll was built on a hill of the Angerberg on ancient settlement ground. Originally, there was also a cemetery at the church, which is documented as early as the 9th/10th century. The tower features Romanesque masonry. The first written mention of a house of worship at the site of the current building dates back to 1315. It is presumed that the current subsidiary church was built by master builder Hans from Breitenbach towards the end of the 15th century. In the 17th century, the wooden ceiling was finally replaced by a barrel vault. The center of the church is the Neo-Gothic high altar, which depicts the Baptism of Christ in the central field. A bomb drop towards the end of World War II in 1945 caused much destruction in the subsidiary church. The damage was finally repaired during the restoration of the building in 1950. In the course of this large-scale restoration, very beautiful frescoes from the time of construction were discovered in the choir, which adorn the beautiful star vault. From April to the end of September, Holy Masses take place in the subsidiary church on selected Thursdays at 7:00 PM (dates according to the notice board on site).
