Weihnachtskrippe in Obermillstatt

What's it about?

The Christmas nativity scene of the Obermillstatt parish church is one of the largest in Carinthia. Over a length of seven meters, it tells the Christmas story in extraordinary variety. The depiction ranges from the Annunciation and the birth of Jesus to his visit to the temple at the age of twelve. 92 artistically crafted figures, buildings, and landscapes bring the biblical scenes to life. The approximately 150-year-old figures with heads and hands made of hard wax have been lovingly restored and re-dressed in recent years. By 2025, a completely redesigned nativity landscape has been created through around 2,000 hours of volunteer work. Modern technology also allows visitors to listen to seven selected Bible passages directly at the nativity scene. Thus, in Obermillstatt, with a lot of skill, community spirit, and enthusiasm, one of the largest and most impressive Christmas nativity scenes in Carinthia has been created. Guided tours of the nativity scene are also gladly offered.
