What's it about?

Magdalena Frey is a photo and video artist. Through the lens of her camera, she looks from the outside at the female form. Through her female-influenced thinking, aware of the history of the male gaze on women in art history, she sensitively points to the fragility of self-understanding, which arises when self-perception is subjected to rules that contradict one's own feelings. The Kunstverein Grünspan is dedicated to the dialogue between generations of contemporary female artists. With Iris Kohlweiss and Hanna Hollmann, we show two artists who, in contrast to Magdalena Frey, work graphically. Magdalena Frey and her generation of women, who dared to name what was until then a taboo breach, can look with her own calm at the next generation of female artists who feel secure and more sheltered than women of previous generations. Opening hours: The exhibition is open from Sunday, May 31 to Saturday, October 10, 2026. Friday to Sunday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Also open in the mornings by appointment for school classes.
