Dr. Thomas Lederer | Prof. Ortolf Harl, archaeologist Hike to the Missoria Music picnic on the fairy tale meadow: "Großmütterchen Hatz" & accordion orchestra "Walletschek" The Veneterstein on the Missoria-Alm between Mauthen and Würmlach is one of the oldest written monuments in Austria. In pre-Roman times, Venetic letters were carved into a rock ridge - traces of an alpine culture that maintained close contacts with the Italic region. The Nobel laureate Theodor Mommsen discovered the historical significance of the stone in 1857. The inscriptions were later cut out of the rock and are now in the Carinthian State Museum. The find is considered an important testimony to early trade and pilgrimage routes in the upper Gailtal. On the initiative of Thomas Lederer, the Upper Gailtal/Lesachtal section of the ÖAV has established the "Theodor Mommsen Hiking Trail" from Waldbad Mauthen to the Missori...
