
The exhibition curated by Alexandra Grimmer in the Sculpture Depot is dedicated to the sculptural work of artist Robert Tauber, who was born in St. Leonhard bei Freistadt (Upper Austria) in 1936. On display are 29 sculptures and one relief from the years 1962 to 1983 – a concentrated insight into an extensive oeuvre comprising around 200 works. Robert Tauber, trained at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under Josef Pillhofer, developed an independent formal language early on. The starting point of his work is the figure, which he never considers in isolation, but always in relation to the surrounding space. His sculptures are not static bodies, but define themselves in dialogue with their environment. Characteristic of Tauber's work is the direct engagement with the material.
