What's it about?

Soundscapes of Romanticism: Tchaikovsky & Bruckner Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, D major, op. 35 Anton Bruckner Symphony No. 2, C minor, WAB 102 Thüringen Philharmonie Gotha-Eisenach Tuesday, November 10, 2026, 7:30 PM, Congress Center Villach, Josef-Resch Hall Elena Denisova Violin Alexei Kornienko Conductor 6:45 PM, Congress Center Villach, Introduction to the concert evening To preserve the ringing reputation of Thuringia as a homeland of great classical music is both an artistic goal and a duty of the Gotha-Eisenach Philharmonic. The orchestra dedicates itself to two masterpieces that could hardly be more different, yet both touch through emotional depth and sonic brilliance. The focus is on Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto. The blend of melancholic Russian soul, lyrical intimacy, and dance vitality challenges both soloist and orchestra alike. Russian world-class violinist Elena Denisova brings out all those facets with her unmistakable sound that have made this work a triumph in concert halls since its premiere. After the intermission, the Gotha-Eisenach Philharmonic unfolds the monumental sound world of Bruckner's 2nd Symphony. The characteristic grand pauses act like breaths of the entire orchestra, opening spaces of spiritual depth and architectural grandeur. The early work shows Bruckner as a composer of new beginnings — fresh, bold, and full of visionary energy. An evening that combines virtuosity, emotional intensity, and the full splendor of late Romantic orchestral art.
