Hike: Architecture & Ore in Heft

What's it about?

The Heft ironworks, a monumental witness to the 19th-century iron industry with its gigantic buildings, is one of the largest historical ironworks in Europe. The old building fabric was harmoniously yet unconventionally connected by Carinthian architect Günther Domenig with a floating glass-steel construction. The building, which can now be visited as an open-air museum, unconventionally and skillfully masters the fusion of classical architecture of historical mining buildings with modern architecture of the provincial exhibition. The old blast furnaces have been spectacularly staged and are the starting point of the hike, which simultaneously feels like a journey through time. The path runs along the old ore railway and is led by Barbara Hudelist, who provides exciting insights into Günther Domenig's philosophy.Attention!You must not be afraid of heights.
