What's it about?

The art of the unmissable objection: An exclusive Visual Talk with Katharina Cibulka of the internationally acclaimed, feminist art project Feminism is not a women's issue – it concerns us all. Men in particular are called upon to question entrenched gender roles and advance true equality. Because as long as power, visibility, and opportunities are unequally distributed, feminism remains a shared task. Artist Katharina Cibulka is known for her courageous, large-format approach to socio-political issues. With her feminist-activist art project SOLANGE, she has been drawing attention to social inequalities worldwide for seven years. Her widely visible and enormous cross-stitch installations – implemented on scaffolding nets – formulate concise messages that irritate, touch, and provoke thought. Cibulka brings central socio-political themes out of hiding and into the public space, reigniting discussions about equality. As an artist, filmmaker, and more recently also a stage designer, Cibulka works from global to local. Her concern remains clear: to make social structures visible, open up spaces for thought, and ask how long it will take until equality is a matter of course. The Visual Talk at FÖN offers insights into her motivation and the impact of SOLANGE – and invites thinking about feminism as a shared project. People of all genders are welcome!
